BME Graduate Program

Building on a 45-year tradition of excellence, the Department of Biomedical Engineering's graduate program at U-M is one of the largest, most diverse, and highest quality programs in North America with more than 200 graduate students. Our program is in the Rackham School of Graduate Studies granting M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Engineering.

Besides access to the leading experts and cutting edge research facilities in every area of BME, the department also provides students with access to resources in other highly regarded engineering departments, natural sciences, medical school, business school, and many other programs across campus.

An Interdisciplinary Approach

Our department's interdisciplinary approach allows students to plan a widely diversified graduate program that advances their personal goals. The research opportunities available for our students are as diversified as the range of activities conducted by the U-M units that support BME. Our faculty members come not only from the College of Engineering and the Medical School, but also from the School of Dentistry, the School of Public Health, and the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. Graduate students complete their degree in one of the following concentrations:

In choosing a graduate school, I found U-M BME had the research caliber and diversity of faculty and students that I was seeking, and provided superior technical and personal resources. The program allows grad students to carve out their own experience. Whether you're fascinated with pure research, the clinical setting, or business, U-M BME provides the kind of education that will allow you to pursue your interests.
