The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan invites nominations and applications for the position of Department Chair.
The Department, currently ranked 7th by US News and World Report, is now being jointly administered by the College of Engineering and Medical School. It currently has 19 tenured and tenure-track faculty members, with a broad portfolio of externally funded research programs covering the full spectrum of biomedical engineering. The Department seeks to significantly grow its faculty during the next three to five years.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding scholar with an earned doctorate in a field related to Biomedical Engineering and an exemplary record of achievement in research, teaching and service at a level commensurate with appointment as a tenured full professor. He or she must also possess visionary leadership abilities, a broad appreciation for the diverse perspectives within biomedical engineering, and a strong interest in promoting sponsored research programs and mentoring faculty. The successful candidate should also be pre-eminently qualified to lead a substantial development effort, catalyze and steward research and educational initiatives across departmental and college boundaries, particularly between the College of Engineering and the Medical School, as well as interact with government, industry, professional societies and alumni, and lead and support a diverse group of faculty, staff and students.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, now a joint department between the College of Engineering and the School of Medicine, is seeking to fill multiple tenured and tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks. Broad areas of interest include neural engineering, molecular and nanoscale engineering, computational and systems physiology, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, cell and tissue biomechanics, molecular and functional imaging, image guided therapeutics, and diagnostics and therapeutics for personalized medicine, but applications in all areas, particularly those with a strong translational focus or an interest in collaborations with clinical departments, will be considered. We seek candidates who will provide inspiration and leadership in research and teaching and who can leverage the strengths of University of Michigan vibrant and highly-ranked engineering and medical research communities. Qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in engineering or a physical science-related discipline and demonstrated excellence in, or a commitment to, teaching, research, and scholarship. M.D., M.D./Ph.D. candidates are also encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. The Edward B. Diethrich, M.D. Research Professor

Job Summary:
The University of Michigan’s College of Engineering and Medical School are seeking candidates for a joint associate professor research appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Section of Vascular Surgery. This position will run the Frankel Vascular Mechanics Laboratory at the University of Michigan’s North Campus Research Complex. All candidates are required to have an established track record as a research investigator in the areas of both vascular mechanics and biomedical engineering. The selected candidate will be expected to obtain independent funding within one year, to participate in the University of Michigan’s teaching mission and to demonstrate commitment to service in the larger community. The position is endowed and the named candidate will be known as “The Edward B. Diethrich, M.D. Research Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Vascular Surgery”.

Desired Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have biomedical engineering experience in cardiovascular medicine (e.g. devices, implants) or perform modeling of the cardiovascular system. A strong computational, physiological or functional imaging focus.
Required Qualifications:
A MD and/or Ph.D. in engineering or life sciences with an established funding/award record capable of achieving an associate professor level position at the University of Michigan.
