Functional and Molecular Imaging

Core Faculty

Mary-Ann Mycek, Ph.D.
Professor, Biomedical Engineering

2208 Lurie Biomedical Engineering
1101 Beal Avenue
Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2110

Phone: (734) 647-1361
Fax: (734) 647-4834
Email: mycek@umich.edu
Website: www.bme.umich.edu/labs/mycek/

More Info: In Professor Mycek's Biomedical Optical Diagnostics Laboratory their objective is to improve human health through research and education in Biomedical Optics. Dr. Mycek's translational ("bench to bedside") research program in Biomedical Optics involves developing and applying methods of optical science and engineering to quantitatively probe living cells and tissues, with the goal of impacting patient care via the development of non- and minimally-invasive biomedical optical diagnostic technologies. Research includes biomolecular imaging, clinical biosensing, and computational modeling for early cancer detection in the pancreas and tissue viability assessment in regenerative medicine. The Biomedical Optical Diagnostics Laboratory in the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Michigan has both the infrastructure and the multi-disciplinary expertise to permit this general approach.

Website: www.bme.umich.edu/labs/dnoll/

More Info: Prof. Noll's group develops magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology for mapping the functional organization the human brain performing specific tasks (known as functional MRI or fMRI). The group's research is in two main areas: 1) understanding the neurovascular physiology associated with brain activity and quantifying the biophysical connection to the MR images and 2) development of image acquisition, image reconstruction, signal processing, and hardware approaches to provide high-speed and robust measurement of function over the entire brain. As part of Functional MRI Laboratory, this group collaborates with a broad range of neuroscientist to develop an understanding of the organization and functioning of the normal brain and to apply the technological advances to quantitative imaging of brain function in a variety of neurological and psychiatric disorders.
